Lexington, Kentucky - Leon was born in Rochester, NY, and lived there for almost 60 years before moving to KY. Leon received a BS from St. John Fisher College and a MS from Syracuse University.
After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army (1960-62), Leon worked for the Univ. of Rochester library for 33 yrs. Leon then volunteered for 20 yrs at the Univ. of Kentucky library.
Leon enjoyed travelling, cycling, walking, and reading. He loved checkers, and played the U.S. checker champion to a draw in 1999. Leon was predeceased by three wives: Alma Burner Creek; Susanna Parker Creek; and Janice Fischer Creek. Leon is survived by Susanna's children, Anne (Hickerson) Jay and Alice (Hickerson) Schaaf, and grandchildren Thomas, John, and William.

Leon Creek
was
the Kentucky tournament director/sponsor, scorekeeper, and referee of many
tournaments, he and Don Brattin sponsored the 2006 National Tournament in
Medina, Ohio. Leon held the “free-for-all” checker day at the
Lexington Senior Center, and Kentucky State Opens up until their last in October
2018. We will
miss our checker brother.
